तस्या: पुनर्नदीतीरे वसन॑ पर्यवर्तत | व्यपकृष्टाम्बरां दृष्टवा तामृषिश्चकमे तत:
tasyāḥ punar nadītīre vasan paryavartata | vyapakṛṣṭāmbarāṃ dṛṣṭvā tām ṛṣiś cakame tataḥ |
毗湿摩波耶那说:她又在河岸逗留,换着衣裳。仙人见她衣衫移位,欲念便立刻在他心中升起。此段强调:即便苦行者的戒律,也会被突如其来的感官诱惑所考验,并凸显誓愿克制与心念脆弱之间的伦理张力。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the fragility of self-restraint: even a sage can be stirred by an unexpected sensory stimulus. Ethically, it points to the need for vigilance (apramāda) and inner discipline, not merely external vows.
A woman remains on the riverbank changing clothes; her garment slips aside. Seeing this, the sage experiences desire immediately, setting up the next narrative developments connected with temptation and its consequences.
