Janamejaya uvāca: nāmatheyāni cāpy eṣāṃ kathyamānāni bhāgaśaḥ | tvattaḥ śrutāni me brahman pāṇḍavānāṃ ca kīrtaya ||
The verse highlights the disciplined transmission of itihāsa: a listener first receives a structured account (names recited one by one) and then requests the complementary lineage. It models attentive listening, orderly narration, and the ethical seriousness with which history and genealogy are preserved.
King Janamejaya, having heard the separate names of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons, asks the sage to proceed to the Pāṇḍavas—specifically to recount their account (their lineage/birth narrative) as the next part of the story.
