वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse classifies a specific dharma-recognized marriage practice: the Ārṣa form, where the bride is given in connection with a sacrificial rite and the officiating priest receives the maiden as part of the ritual fee; it emphasizes traditional categorization and the authority of learned consensus.
Vaiśampāyana is enumerating and explaining recognized types of marriage; here he notes that some people follow the Ārṣa procedure and that learned authorities count it as an established (here stated as the eighth) form.
