Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Remember specific Kṛṣṇa forms while consuming specific dairy foods: Tāṇḍava-ākhyā Kṛṣṇa with fresh butter; Gopāla-Kṛṣṇa with curd-rice.
Vedantic Theme: Saguna-upāsanā through daily triggers: sensory experience is redirected from mere bhoga to īśvara-smṛti, refining desire into devotion.
Application: Use food as a remembrance cue: when eating butter/curd-rice, mentally visualize Kṛṣṇa as playful Gopāla; offer the first portion inwardly; cultivate moderation and gratitude.
Primary Rasa: shringara
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.29.56-60 (food-linked nāma-smaraṇa)
This verse teaches nitya-smaraṇa (constant remembrance) by linking ordinary meals to specific forms of Krishna, turning daily nourishment into devotional practice.
Though not describing Yama’s realm directly, it supports the Purana’s broader theme that sustained devotion and right mindfulness (smṛti) purify one’s inner state, which influences one’s post-death journey.
Before or during meals, consciously dedicate the act of eating to God—especially by repeating Krishna’s name—so routine habits become steady spiritual discipline.
