Śivapūjā-vidhi: Purifications, Sūrya–Graha Mantras, Nyāsa, and Bhūtaśuddhi leading to Śivoham-bhāva
भूतशुद्धिं प्रवक्ष्यामि यया शुद्धः शिवो भवेत् / हृत्पद्मे सद्योमन्त्रः स्यान्निवृत्तिश्च कला इडा
bhūtaśuddhiṃ pravakṣyāmi yayā śuddhaḥ śivo bhavet / hṛtpadme sadyomantraḥ syānnivṛttiśca kalā iḍā
Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Bhūta-śuddhi through mantra and inner withdrawal (nivṛtti) culminating in purified being (śivatva as purity-state).
Vedantic Theme: Antaḥkaraṇa-śuddhi as a prerequisite for jñāna/bhakti; inward turning (nivṛtti-mārga).
Application: Practice heart-centered japa/nyāsa with attention to iḍā flow and cultivating nivṛtti (sense-withdrawal) before meditation.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: inner yogic locus (cakra/lotus)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.23 (yoga/mantra/bhūta-śuddhi sequence continuing in 1.23.37–40)
This verse presents bhūta-śuddhi (elemental purification) as a direct means to inner purity and attaining the Śiva-state—i.e., abiding in auspicious, liberated consciousness.
Rather than describing external afterlife geography, it points to an inner route: purifying the subtle constitution through mantra and withdrawal (nivṛtti) centered in the heart-lotus, which refines consciousness toward liberation.
Use disciplined mantra-japa with heart-centered meditation and sense-withdrawal practices to cultivate inner purity; the verse emphasizes inner transformation as the foundation of spiritual progress.
