Pāṇḍu-Śotha Nidāna: Doṣa-wise Signs, Complications, and Prognosis
पित्ते हरितपित्ताभः शिरादिषु ज्वरस्तमः / तृट्शोषमूर्छादौर्गन्ध्यं शीतेच्छा कटुवक्रता
pitte haritapittābhaḥ śirādiṣu jvarastamaḥ / tṛṭśoṣamūrchādaurgandhyaṃ śītecchā kaṭuvakratā
当火(pitta)偏盛时,呈现如胆汁般的黄绿之色;发热与昏暗迷乱之感侵及头部等处。口渴、干燥、昏厥与秽臭并起;贪求清冷,口中生苦而乖异之味。
Lord Vishnu (in dialogue with Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Dosha: Pitta
Concept: Pitta-prādhānya is recognized through color-change, jvara, tṛṣṇā, dāha-like dryness, gandha-doṣa, and śīta-icchā.
Vedantic Theme: Guṇa/doṣa fluctuations show the body’s changeability; steadiness of mind is supported by right care of the instrument (śarīra).
Application: Identify pitta aggravation (harita-pitta ābhā, fever, thirst, foul odor, bitter taste, craving cold) and adopt pitta-pacifying cooling measures under medical supervision.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.162.10 (vāta signs); Garuda Purana 1.162.12 (kapha signs); Garuda Purana 1.162.13 (mixed-doṣa obscuration)
The verse gives classic pitta indicators—bile-like discoloration, fever, thirst, foul odor, and craving for cold—helping identify heat/agni imbalance.
By emphasizing fever, stupor, and fainting, it highlights how bodily and mental clarity can collapse—prompting timely spiritual practice and remembrance of dharma.
If heat signs (fever, intense thirst, bitter taste, foul odor) persist, reduce pitta-aggravating factors (excess spice/alcohol/heat exposure) and seek medical guidance.
