Secondary Creation Begins: Brahmā’s Productions, the Guṇas, and the Emergence of Orders of Beings
देवोऽदेवाञ्जघनत: सृजति स्मातिलोलुपान् । त एनं लोलुपतया मैथुनायाभिपेदिरे ॥ २३ ॥
devo ’devāñ jaghanataḥ sṛjati smātilolupān ta enaṁ lolupatayā maithunāyābhipedire
随后,天神梵天从自己的臀部生出阿修罗;他们极其贪恋淫欲,因此因欲火炽盛而逼近梵天,欲与之交合。
Sex life is the background of material existence. Here also it is repeated that demons are very fond of sex life. The more one is free from the desire for sex, the more he is promoted to the level of the demigods; the more one is inclined to enjoy sex, the more he is degraded to the level of demoniac life.
This verse portrays lust as a tamasic force that makes beings restless and impulsive, driving them toward sense enjoyment rather than dharma and devotion.
To show that within material creation different modes (especially tamas) manifest distinct species and mentalities, and that uncontrolled desire leads to irreligious conduct.
It warns that unchecked craving—especially sexual and sensory obsession—can degrade judgment; practicing self-control, pure habits, and devotion helps redirect the mind toward higher purpose.
