Portents at the Birth of Diti’s Sons and Hiraṇyākṣa Challenges Varuṇa
तस्मिन् प्रविष्टे वरुणस्य सैनिका यादोगणा: सन्नधिय: ससाध्वसा: । अहन्यमाना अपि तस्य वर्चसा प्रधर्षिता दूरतरं प्रदुद्रुवु: ॥ २५ ॥
tasmin praviṣṭe varuṇasya sainikā yādo-gaṇāḥ sanna-dhiyaḥ sasādhvasāḥ ahanyamānā api tasya varcasā pradharṣitā dūrataraṁ pradudruvuḥ
当他进入大海时，作为伐楼那军队的水族众生惊惧不已，虽未受击，却被他的威光所压迫，远远逃散。就这样，希兰尼亚克沙不必出手便显露了其光辉。
Materialistic demons sometimes appear to be very powerful and are seen to establish their supremacy throughout the world. Here also it appears that Hiraṇyākṣa, by his demoniac strength, actually established his supremacy throughout the universe, and the demigods were afraid of his uncommon power. Not only were the demigods in space afraid of the demons Hiraṇyakaśipu and Hiraṇyākṣa, but so also were the aquatic animals within the sea.

This verse shows that mere spiritual splendor (varcasa) can overpower opposition—Varuṇa’s armed beings were not even struck, yet they fled in fear due to the entrant’s radiance.
They were intimidated by the extraordinary power and effulgence of the person who entered; even without being attacked, they felt overawed and retreated far away.
It teaches that inner spiritual strength and purity can dissolve hostility without aggression—cultivating devotion, character, and steadiness can naturally reduce fear and opposition.
