Diti’s Untimely Desire and the Birth-Cause of the Asura Line
Prelude to Hiranyākṣa–Varāha
ययोत्तानपद: पुत्रो मुनिना गीतयार्भक: । मृत्यो: कृत्वैव मूर्ध्न्यङ्घ्रि मारुरोह हरे: पदम् ॥ ६ ॥
yayottānapadaḥ putro muninā gītayārbhakaḥ mṛtyoḥ kṛtvaiva mūrdhny aṅghrim āruroha hareḥ padam
乌塔那帕达王之子德鲁瓦听闻圣者那罗陀所宣唱的这些主题,觉悟了至上人格神,并登临主的居所,仿佛将双足踏在死亡之首。
While quitting his body, Mahārāja Dhruva, the son of King Uttānapāda, was attended by personalities like Sunanda and others, who received him in the kingdom of God. He left this world at an early age, as a young boy, although he had attained the throne of his father and had several children of his own. Because he was due to quit this world, death was waiting for him. He did not care for death, however, and even with his present body he boarded a spiritual airplane and went directly to the planet of Viṣṇu because of his association with the great sage Nārada, who had spoken to him the narration of the pastimes of the Lord.
This verse states that by the sage’s sung prayer, Dhruva transcended death—symbolically placing his foot on Death’s head—and attained Lord Hari’s abode, showing bhakti’s power to overcome mortality.
The child is Dhruva, son of King Uttānapāda. Empowered by Nārada Muni’s instruction, he ultimately attained the lotus feet (abode) of Lord Hari.
By sincerely taking guidance from saintly teachers and practicing devotional chanting and remembrance of Hari, one develops fearlessness, steadiness, and a life aimed at spiritual attainment beyond death.
