This verse states that by hearing about Sītā, Rāvaṇa’s heart became inflamed with lust, and driven by that desire he engineered the deceptive plan involving the wondrous deer.
Rāvaṇa used Mārīca’s supernatural deer-form to lure Rāma away from the hermitage; understanding the deception, Rāma swiftly struck Mārīca with an arrow.
It highlights how uncontrolled hearing and contemplation can inflame desire and lead to harmful schemes; disciplined senses and discernment protect one from deception and downfall.
