Kali-yuga Dynasties and the Degradation of Kingship
स एकच्छत्रां पृथिवीमनुल्लङ्घितशासन: । शासिष्यति महापद्मो द्वितीय इव भार्गव: ॥ ९ ॥
sa eka-cchatrāṁ pṛthivīm anullaṅghita-śāsanaḥ śāsiṣyati mahāpadmo dvitīya iva bhārgavaḥ
作为摩诃钵陀摩之主的难陀,将如第二位帕罗修罗摩一般,以不可违逆的号令一统大地;无人敢挑战他的权威。
In the eighth verse of this chapter it was mentioned that King Nanda would destroy the remnants of the kṣatriya order. Therefore he is here compared to Lord Paraśurāma, who annihilated the kṣatriya class twenty-one times in a previous age.
This verse predicts that Mahāpadma will make the earth ‘one-umbrella,’ meaning centralized sovereignty, with his commands not being disobeyed.
Because his rule will be forceful and unchallenged—resembling Paraśurāma’s overwhelming power that subdued opposing rulers.
Worldly power can become centralized and intimidating; the Bhāgavatam urges devotees to anchor faith in Bhagavān and dharma rather than in shifting political strength.
