Arjuna Marries Subhadrā; Kṛṣṇa Honors Two Devotees in Mithilā (Śrutadeva and Bahulāśva)
śrī-śuka uvāca kṛṣṇasyāsīd dvija-śreṣṭhaḥ śrutadeva iti śrutaḥ kṛṣṇaika-bhaktyā pūrṇārthaḥ śāntaḥ kavir alampataḥ
This verse highlights a devotee as exclusively devoted to Kṛṣṇa (kṛṣṇaika-bhakti), fully satisfied (pūrṇārtha), peaceful (śānta), wise/learned (kavi), and free from sensual craving (alampaṭa).
Śrutadeva is described here as the foremost brāhmaṇa devotee of Kṛṣṇa, renowned for single-minded devotion that made him peaceful, wise, and detached.
By making Kṛṣṇa the central priority—regular śravaṇa and kīrtana, offering daily work as service, and reducing habits that feed lust and greed—one gradually gains inner peace and contentment like Śrutadeva.
