Vasudeva and Devakī Glorify Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma; The Recovery of Devakī’s Six Sons from Sutala
śrī-bhagavān uvāca āsan marīceḥ ṣaṭ putrā ūrṇāyāṁ prathame ’ntare devāḥ kaṁ jahasur vīkṣya sutaṁ yabhitum udyatam
This verse states that six sons of the sage Marīci, born from Ūrṇā in the first manvantara, are being referenced—linking an ancient cosmic-era event to the later narrative involving Kaṁsa and Devakī’s children.
The verse indicates the gods mocked Kaṁsa’s attempt because his violent, arrogant effort to control destiny was futile before the higher divine arrangement that ultimately protects dharma and fulfills the Lord’s plan.
It cautions against fear-driven control and cruelty: when one acts against dharma, even “power” becomes ridiculous, while aligning with righteousness and trust in the divine order brings protection and clarity.
