The translation and word meanings for this verse are taken from Śrīla Prabhupāda’s English rendering of Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta ( Madhya 1.81), where this verse is quoted.
This verse says that taking shelter of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s lotus feet is the support by which one can rise out of the saṁsāra-kūpa, the deep well of material life.
Although Kṛṣṇa is physically present, they express the essence of devotion: constant inner remembrance of His lotus feet, which even perfected yogīs meditate upon.
Even while maintaining family duties, one can cultivate steady remembrance—through japa, hearing Bhāgavatam, and offering daily actions to Kṛṣṇa—making His lotus feet the inner shelter.
