Govardhana-pūjā: Kṛṣṇa Redirects Indra-yajña to Worship of Govardhana, Cows, and Brāhmaṇas
पच्यन्तां विविधा: पाका: सूपान्ता: पायसादय: । संयावापूपशष्कुल्य: सर्वदोहश्च गृह्यताम् ॥ २६ ॥
pacyantāṁ vividhāḥ pākāḥ sūpāntāḥ pāyasādayaḥ saṁyāvāpūpa-śaṣkulyaḥ sarva-dohaś ca gṛhyatām
当烹制各式佳肴,从乳甜饭(帕雅萨)到诸般蔬汤;又当备办多种精致糕点,或烤或炸;并将一切可得的乳制品尽数取来,以供此祭。
The word sūpa indicates bean broth and also liquid vegetables. Thus to celebrate the Govardhana-pūjā, Lord Kṛṣṇa called for hot preparations such as soup, cold preparations like sweet rice, and all types of milk products.
This verse describes preparing abundant varieties of food—soups, sweet rice (pāyasa), cakes, fried items, and many dairy products—as offerings for Govardhana worship, emphasizing joyful, generous devotional service.
In the Govardhana episode, Krishna redirects the community’s worship away from Indra-yajña and toward honoring Govardhana and the cows; the plentiful preparations express wholehearted devotion and communal participation in that worship.
Offer what you cook with sincerity and gratitude—make devotional offering (naivedya), share prasāda generously, and let worship be grounded in humility, community, and care for nature and cows.
