Varṣā-Śarad Vṛndāvana-Śobha: The Beauty of the Rainy and Autumn Seasons in Vraja
आश्लिष्य समशीतोष्णं प्रसूनवनमारुतम् । जनास्तापं जहुर्गोप्यो न कृष्णहृतचेतस: ॥ ४५ ॥
āśliṣya sama-śītoṣṇaṁ prasūna-vana-mārutam janās tāpaṁ jahur gopyo na kṛṣṇa-hṛta-cetasaḥ
众人拥抱那从花林吹来的、不冷不热的清风,便忘却了自身的烦热;唯有被克里希纳夺去心神的牧女们,仍不能忘怀其苦。
This verse shows that while ordinary distress can be relieved by pleasant circumstances, the gopīs’ pain of separation from Kṛṣṇa cannot be eased, highlighting viraha as an intense, exclusive form of devotion.
Because their consciousness is absorbed in Kṛṣṇa alone—“Kṛṣṇa-hṛta-cetasaḥ”—so external comforts do not touch the inner longing created by separation from Him.
It teaches focused devotion: material comforts may soothe the body, but spiritual longing grows when one’s heart is fixed on Kṛṣṇa—encouraging steady remembrance and sincere prayer rather than dependence on external relief.
