Manvantara Enumerations Begin: Svāyambhuva’s Austerity, Yajñapati’s Protection, and the Avatāras up to Hari
Gajendra Prelude
caturtha uttama-bhrātā manur nāmnā ca tāmasaḥ pṛthuḥ khyātir naraḥ ketur ity ādyā daśa tat-sutāḥ
Tāmasa Manu is described here as the fourth Manu, the brother of Uttama Manu, appearing in the sequence of Manvantaras narrated in Canto 8, Chapter 1.
This verse states that Tāmasa Manu had ten sons, headed by Pṛthu, Khyāti, Nara, and Ketu.
By reflecting on the ordered cycles of Manus and generations, one learns humility and steadiness—seeing personal life within a larger dharmic timeline and staying committed to bhakti across changing circumstances.
