Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Philosophy","secondary_vidya":"Samanya","practical_application":"Use guṇa-analysis to prevent attachment: observe sensations, thoughts, and impulses as prakṛti processes; apply jñāna as the means to cross pāpa and duḥkha.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Guṇā guṇeṣu vartante: Non-attachment through prakṛti-analysis; jñāna as raft","lookup_keywords":["guna gunesu","na sajjate","jnana-plava","vrjinam","vairagya"],"quick_summary":"Recognizing that guṇas operate upon guṇas (sense-faculties and objects within prakṛti), the wise do not cling. Knowledge functions as a raft to cross sin and adversity."}

Alamkara Type: Rupaka (metaphor: knowledge as raft)

Concept: Prakṛti-doctrine: guṇas interact within prakṛti; the Self is witness. Jñāna is the direct means to transcend pāpa/kleśa.

Application: During strong emotion, label it ‘rajas moving in rajas’ or ‘tamas rising’; return to witnessing awareness; study/meditate as ‘jñāna-plava’ daily.

Khanda Section: Moksha-dharma / Jnana-yoga (Liberation through Knowledge; Sattva-Guṇa analysis)

Primary Rasa: Shanta

Secondary Rasa: Adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A person crosses a turbulent river labeled ‘vṛjina’ on a raft labeled ‘jñāna’; on the banks, swirling colored currents represent sattva, rajas, tamas interacting, while the witness-self is shown as a calm light above.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, stylized river with wave patterns, raft with Sanskrit ‘jñāna’, three-color guṇa currents (white/red/black) swirling, serene witness-lotus above, bold outlines and temple palette","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, gold-embossed raft and haloed traveler, river rendered in deep blue with gold wave accents, guṇa motifs as three jeweled bands, ornate border emphasizing liberation theme","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, clear didactic composition: labeled raft ‘jñāna’, river ‘vṛjina’, guṇa currents diagrammed, soft colors and fine gold lines, calm facial expressions","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, detailed river-crossing scene with delicate flora, small calligraphic labels on raft and river, subtle allegorical figures for guṇas, refined palette and intricate border"}

FAQs

It imparts guṇa-viveka (discriminative insight): recognizing that actions and experiences arise from the interplay of guṇas with guṇas, which practically trains non-attachment and steadiness in conduct.

Beyond rituals and external disciplines, it includes philosophical soteriology (Sāṅkhya/Yoga-style guṇa analysis), showing the Purana’s coverage of liberation-theory alongside its many applied sciences.

Non-attachment grounded in right knowledge weakens bondage-producing identification, enabling one to “cross” vṛjina—sin and suffering—by dissolving the doer-notion and its karmic consequences.
