FAQs

It imparts Sāṅkhya-style tattva-vidyā: a technical listing of the cognitive senses, organs of action, mind, ego, intellect, and the gross elements (earth onward) used for analysis of embodiment and experience.

By embedding a systematic philosophical taxonomy (indriyas, antaḥkaraṇa, and mahābhūtas) alongside other subjects, the Agni Purana functions as a reference compendium—cataloging core categories used across yoga, dharma, and liberation-oriented teachings.

Discriminating these constituents supports detachment and self-knowledge: one learns to distinguish the Self from mind, senses, ego, intellect, and elemental matter—reducing identification and thereby loosening karmic bondage.
