Lord Agni (narrator) in a stotra-style passage (Devi praise) within the Agni Purana’s discourse framework

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Stotra","secondary_vidya":"Philosophy","practical_application":"Recited as Devi-tattva theology: establishes Mother as universal matrix and Vishnu as paternal principle, both pervading the cosmos; used in worship and doctrinal instruction.","sutra_style":false}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Commentary","entry_title":"Jagad-vyāpti of Devī and Viṣṇu (Universal Pervasion)","lookup_keywords":["amba","hari","jagadvyāpti","carācara","devī-tattva"],"quick_summary":"The verse presents a complementary theology: Devī as universal Mother and Viṣṇu as Father, together pervading all moving and unmoving existence."}

Alamkara Type: Yamaka/anuprāsa (soft repetition: tvam… tvayā… jagadvyāptam)

Concept: Immanence: the divine pervades all beings; complementary principles of Mother (Śakti/Devī) and Father (Viṣṇu) sustain the universe.

Application: Supports non-sectarian integration in practice: worship of Devī with Viṣṇu as mutually inclusive pervaders; cultivates sarva-bhūta-samatā.

Khanda Section: Stotra and Devi-Tattva (Devotional Theology / Puranic Hymnody)

Primary Rasa: Shanta

Secondary Rasa: Adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Devī as universal Mother and Viṣṇu as Father appear as cosmic figures, their presence permeating the moving and unmoving universe—animals, humans, trees, mountains, and stars.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, Devī and Viṣṇu in majestic frontal poses, surrounded by concentric bands of carācara beings—birds, deer, sages, trees—set against a stylized cosmic mandala, deep greens and reds with gold accents.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, central paired divinities (Devī and Viṣṇu) with ornate gold halo-work, the universe depicted as a circular aureole containing miniature scenes of moving and unmoving beings, rich jewel tones.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, refined linework showing Devī and Viṣṇu with a subtle cosmic map behind them (mountains, rivers, villages, forests), emphasizing ‘vyāpti’ through layered composition and soft shading.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, a celestial assembly where Devī and Viṣṇu appear on a cloud-throne, below them detailed vignettes of city, forest, and animals to show carācara, delicate borders and fine architectural detail."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"contemplative","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"slow","voice_tone":"devotional"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: tvamambā = त्वम् + अम्बा; tvayaitat = त्वया + एतत्; cāmba = च + अम्ब; jagadvyāptam = जगत् + व्याप्तम्. IAST has a likely typo 'voiṣṇunā' → 'vaiṣṇunā'.

FAQs

This verse imparts tattva-vidya (doctrinal theology): the principle of divine immanence (vyāpti)—the universe of moving and unmoving beings is pervaded by the Mother (Devi) and by Vishnu (Hari).

Alongside practical sections (ritual, polity, medicine, arts), the Agni Purana preserves compact theological formulations—here, a metaphysical summary of the divine as both parental archetype (Mother/Father) and as the all-pervading ground of the cosmos.

Contemplating the world as pervaded by Devi and Vishnu supports bhakti and śuddhi of vision: it trains the devotee to see the sacred in all beings (carācara), reducing divisive karma and strengthening devotion and reverence.
