Bondage and Liberation: The Prakṛti–Karma Wheel and Śiva as the Transcendent Cause
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Frames śānti-yajña as a periodic (annual) purification that reduces doṣas and restores auspiciousness, supporting steady progress from bondage (pāśa) toward grace (anugraha).
Type: rudram
Role: liberating
The verse teaches that recurring ritual discipline—performed with correct method—purifies karmic and ritual impurities (doṣas), restoring śānti (inner and outer harmony) and supporting steady progress toward Shiva’s grace.
A Śānti-yajña is a Saguna mode of worship where Shiva is approached as the benevolent Lord who removes obstacles and inauspiciousness; such rites typically culminate in Shiva-centered offerings and remembrance, aligning the devotee with the Linga’s auspicious presence.
It recommends an annual Śānti-yajña in Phālguna; as a practical takeaway, one may pair the rite with Shiva-japa (e.g., Om Namaḥ Śivāya), purity observances, and devotional offerings to sustain doṣa-śānti year after year.
