Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Defines ‘Śiva’ nāma as pātheya for paraloka and as mokṣopāya: a compact Siddhāntic soteriology where the Lord’s name embodies grace, merit, and the path to His abode.
Mantra: śiva ity akṣaradvayam
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It proclaims that even the simple utterance and remembrance of the Lord’s name—“Śiva”—is a complete spiritual support for the soul’s onward journey and a pure, reliable means to liberation, because the name carries the Lord’s auspicious grace (anugraha).
In Shaiva practice, the name “Śiva” is chanted while worshipping Saguna Shiva—especially the Śiva-liṅga—so nāma-japa becomes an inner offering that gathers merit and turns devotion toward the liberating Lord (Pati).
Regular Shiva-nāma japa—repeating “Śiva” (and traditionally aligning it with Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”)—as daily remembrance during pūjā, japa, or meditation, especially on Mondays and Mahāśivarātri.
