Gajāsura’s Austerities and the Disturbance of the Worlds

Offering: pushpa
The verse shows bhakti expressed through nāma-smaraṇa (recitation of Shiva’s epithets): recognizing Shiva as Devadeva and Smarahāri, the Lord who subdues desire and grants purity of consciousness—key to liberation in a Shaiva Siddhānta lens.
By praising Shiva with concrete attributes—Triśūlin (trident-bearer) and Smarahāri—this verse supports Saguna-upāsanā (devotional worship with form and qualities), which in the Purāṇic path commonly culminates in reverence to Shiva as present in the Liṅga.
A practical takeaway is japa and dhyāna on Shiva’s names—Devadeva, Mahādeva, Triśūlin, Smarahāri—aligned with Panchākṣarī japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) to internalize victory over kāma (restless desire).
