Bāṇāsura Receives Gaṇapatya; Genealogical Prelude
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
The verse highlights dharmic devotion and humility in a great sage: Kaśyapa’s spiritual stature is shown through faithful service to his source (father) and to cosmic order (Vidhi/Brahmā), implying that creation and spiritual merit flourish when aligned with rightful authority and devotion.
Though the verse names Kaśyapa and Vidhi rather than the Liṅga directly, it supports the Shaiva Purana theme that all cosmic functions (including Brahmā’s ordaining power) ultimately operate under Shiva’s supreme lordship; reverence for divine order becomes a foundation for Saguna Shiva worship expressed through disciplined devotion.
The practical takeaway is steadfast bhakti with obedience to sacred injunctions (vidhi): daily japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and regular Shiva-puja performed according to proper ritual order are consistent applications of this verse’s spirit.
