(Description of the Dharma/Conduct of the Bhūta-Tripura) — Chapter 3
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse highlights a dharmic response to duḥkha: one should clearly recognize the cause of suffering and promptly take refuge in the Divine through truthful disclosure and surrender, preparing the ground for grace and right guidance.
Though Viṣṇu is addressed in the narrative, the Shiva Purana’s Shaiva frame treats such refuge as part of divine order leading ultimately to Śiva’s grace; in Saguna worship, devotees similarly approach the Linga with a transparent account of their afflictions, seeking removal of pāśa (bondage) and restoration of dharma.
A practical takeaway is confession-like self-review (ātma-vicāra) followed by prayerful surrender—ideally with japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” and, where customary, Tripuṇḍra-bhasma and Rudrākṣa as supports for steadiness and devotion.
