Jalandhara Sends an Envoy to Kailāsa
The Provocation of Śiva
Tattva Level: pashu
It establishes the guru–disciple transmission of sacred history: Vyāsa seeks precise knowledge from the all-knowing Sanatkumāra, showing that dharma and devotion to Śiva are understood through attentive inquiry and authoritative narration.
Though not naming the Liṅga directly, it frames the Yuddhakhaṇḍa setting where divine intervention and Śiva’s saguna līlā are described; such narratives support bhakti by revealing how the Lord protects cosmic order and subdues adharma.
The practical takeaway is śravaṇa (devotional listening) and manana (reflection) on Śiva-kathā—approaching a competent teacher, hearing the account in detail, and internalizing it as a support for japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”).
