Post–Dakṣa-Yajña Developments and the Appeal to Viṣṇu
विष्णुरुवाच । तेजीयसि न सा भूता कृतागसि बुभूषताम् । तत्र क्षेमाय बहुधा बुभूषा हि कृतागसाम्
viṣṇuruvāca | tejīyasi na sā bhūtā kṛtāgasi bubhūṣatām | tatra kṣemāya bahudhā bubhūṣā hi kṛtāgasām
Viṣṇu nói: “Kẻ đã phạm lỗi mà còn mong hưng thịnh thì chưa từng—và sẽ chẳng bao giờ—có phúc lạc chân thật. Với người mang tội, an ổn chỉ đạt được nhờ nhiều phương cách sám hối, thực hành để tự hộ trì.”

It teaches that lasting well-being cannot coexist with unaddressed wrongdoing; spiritual safety (kṣema) arises when one accepts fault and undertakes purification, aligning oneself with dharma and ultimately with Shiva’s grace.
In the Shiva Purana framework, approaching Saguna Shiva (the Linga as compassionate Lord) is most fruitful when paired with inner cleansing—confession, restraint, and sincere devotion—so worship becomes a means of restoring kṣema rather than merely seeking worldly gain.
The verse implies prāyaścitta: sincere repentance, disciplined vows, and devotional worship—such as japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple purificatory observances (fasting, restraint, truthful living)—to regain spiritual welfare.
