Devas and Śiva’s Gaṇas Engage in Battle
ब्रह्मोवाच । इत्युक्तवति गोविन्दे प्रहस्य स महाभुजः । अवदत्सुप्रसन्नोस्मि त्वां ज्ञात्वास्मत्प्रभोः प्रियम्
brahmovāca | ityuktavati govinde prahasya sa mahābhujaḥ | avadatsuprasannosmi tvāṃ jñātvāsmatprabhoḥ priyam
Phạm Thiên nói: Khi Govinda đã nói như vậy, vị dũng sĩ tay lực lưỡng ấy mỉm cười và đáp: “Ta vô cùng hoan hỷ, vì đã biết ngươi là người được Đức Chúa của chúng ta (Śiva) yêu quý.”

The verse highlights a Shaiva Siddhanta theme: true spiritual worth is measured by one’s nearness (priyatva) to Pati—Lord Shiva. Approval here is not worldly praise but recognition of Shiva-bhakti as a direct mark of grace and right alignment with dharma.
Calling Shiva “our Lord” and valuing what is ‘dear to Him’ supports Saguna devotion—approaching Shiva through reverent relationship and worship. In Linga-worship, the devotee seeks to become ‘priya’ to Shiva through pūjā, purity, and steadfast remembrance, which this verse implicitly commends.
The practical takeaway is to cultivate Shiva-priyatva through daily japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and sincere pūjā. If following Shiva Purana practice, one may add Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrāksha as aids to steady devotion and remembrance.
