Devas and Śiva’s Gaṇas Engage in Battle
Brihaspati
Tattva Level: pashu
It emphasizes śravaṇa (reverent listening) and the reliability of divine counsel—events unfold according to cosmic order, and wisdom must be received with focused attention to mature into right understanding on the Shaiva path.
Though the verse is a narrative preface, it frames how devotees should approach Shiva Purana teachings: by attentive listening to authoritative instruction, which later guides Saguna Shiva worship (ritual, devotion) and supports insight into Shiva’s higher truth.
The direct practice implied is disciplined listening and contemplation (śravaṇa–manana). As a takeaway, hear Shiva-kathā with one-pointed attention, then reflect on it daily—supporting mantra-japa (such as the Panchakshara) with steadiness.
