The Manifestation/Arising of Kāma
The sages at Naimiṣāraṇya (addressing Sūta Gosvāmī)
Tattva Level: pashu
Sthala Purana: A formal request for detailed kathā and doubt-removal; not tied to a specific sacred site.
Significance: Models the śiṣya-bhāva: humility and earnest inquiry are prerequisites for receiving teaching and grace (anugraha).
It highlights śravaṇa (reverent listening) and saṃśaya-nivṛtti (removal of doubt) as essential steps for steady devotion to Śiva and for right knowledge that supports liberation.
Before practicing Saguna worship—such as Liṅga-pūjā—devotees seek clear understanding from an authoritative narrator/teacher, so worship is grounded in correct doctrine and faith rather than confusion.
The implied practice is kathā-śravaṇa (listening to Śiva Purāṇa) with humility and inquiry; this supports mantra-japa (especially Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) by making the mind doubt-free and focused.
