पार्वत्युवाच । मातस्ते विपरीता हि बुद्धिर्जाताऽशुभावहा । धर्मावलम्बनात्त्वं हि कथन्धर्मं जहासि वै
pārvatyuvāca | mātaste viparītā hi buddhirjātā'śubhāvahā | dharmāvalambanāttvaṃ hi kathandharmaṃ jahāsi vai
Pārvatī nói: Mẹ ơi, nhận thức của mẹ quả đã trở nên trái nghịch, đem lại điềm dữ. Mẹ đã nương tựa nơi dharma, sao lại có thể thật sự lìa bỏ dharma?

It teaches that dharma is not merely a claim or social posture; when one’s buddhi becomes “viparīta” (distorted), actions become aśubha (spiritually harmful). True dharma supports inner clarity and devotion, aligning the soul toward Shiva rather than away from righteousness.
In the Shiva Purana, right understanding and dharma mature into steady bhakti toward Saguna Shiva (worship of Shiva as the gracious Lord, often through the Linga). The verse warns that abandoning dharma undermines the very foundation needed for sincere, disciplined Shiva-worship.
The practical takeaway is to re-establish dharmic discipline alongside devotion—regular japa of the Panchākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with ethical restraint (yama-niyama), and worship performed with purity of intention rather than confused or contrary thinking.
