Himālaya Mission of the Gods’ Preceptor / The Gods Send Their Guru
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga narrative; it asserts exclusive election of Śiva (Pinākin) by Durgā/Pārvatī, a doctrinally significant statement of Śiva’s unsurpassable status as pati and sole liberator.
Significance: Supports ekaniṣṭhā-bhakti (single-point devotion): the soul’s ‘choice’ culminates in exclusive refuge in Śiva, mirroring Siddhānta’s insistence on Śiva as the only giver of mokṣa.
Shakti Form: Durgā
Role: liberating
It highlights Pārvatī’s niṣṭhā (unshakable resolve): the soul’s highest aim is union with Pati (Śiva), not lesser worldly boons. Her exclusivity toward Pinākin symbolizes single-pointed bhakti leading toward grace.
Calling Śiva “Pinākin” emphasizes Saguna Śiva—God with attributes and divine form—who becomes accessible to devotion. Such steadfast devotion naturally supports Linga-worship as the concrete, worshipful presence of Śiva for the devotee.
Single-minded japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with a vow-like steadiness (niyama) is the takeaway—devotion that does not bargain for lesser results but seeks Śiva alone.
