Pārvatī’s Request: Śiva to Seek Her in Beggar-Form at Himālaya’s Court
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Bhikṣāṭana
Sthala Purana: The instruction ‘becoming a bhikṣu’ evokes Śiva’s Bhikṣāṭana līlā—concealment through ascetic guise to accomplish divine aims while testing and transforming worldly pride.
Significance: Teaches that Śiva may approach devotees in disguised forms; humility and receptivity become gateways to grace.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
It shows Śiva’s chosen mode of approach—humility and vairāgya—where the Supreme Pati employs līlā to sanctify worldly rites (marriage) and reveal that grace, not ego, is the true means of union.
The verse highlights Saguna Śiva’s accessible form and conduct: even as the transcendent Lord, He adopts the bhikṣu-role, teaching devotees to approach the Linga with simplicity, surrender, and reverence rather than display.
Cultivate bhikṣā-bhāva (humble seeking) in japa—especially “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and, if practiced, wear rudrākṣa and apply tripuṇḍra with the intent of renunciation and devotion rather than mere external identity.
