शुभं लब्ध्वा न हृष्येत कुप्येल्लब्ध्वाऽशुभं न हि । द्वंद्वेषु समता यस्य ज्ञानवानुच्यते हि सः
śubhaṃ labdhvā na hṛṣyeta kupyellabdhvā'śubhaṃ na hi | dvaṃdveṣu samatā yasya jñānavānucyate hi saḥ

It defines the mark of jñāna (true spiritual knowing) as samatā—remaining steady through pleasure and pain, praise and blame—so the devotee becomes fit for Shiva’s grace and liberation.
Linga-worship trains the mind to rest in Shiva as the unchanging reality behind changing events; by offering both joy and sorrow at the Linga, the sādhaka develops equanimity and devotion to Saguna Shiva that matures toward realization.
Practice daily Linga-abhiṣeka while repeating the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and consciously offer both “śubha” and “aśubha” experiences to Shiva; this supports vairāgya and steadiness (samatva).
