Inquiry into the Ten Principal Śaiva Vratas
A Shiva devotee (narrated within Suta Goswami’s discourse in the Kotirudrasaṃhitā)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Affirms kula-saṃskāra of Śiva-bhakti: continuity of Śiva-upāsanā across births is framed as a supreme fortune; avoidance of a Śiva-vimukha lineage is sought as protection from spiritually barren saṃskāras.
Type: stotra
Offering: pushpa
It expresses the Shaiva ideal that the highest fortune is continuous devotion to Pati (Lord Shiva) across births, and that a life devoid of Shiva-bhakti is spiritually barren even if materially prosperous.
The verse prioritizes lived devotion—regular bhajana/puja—toward Shiva as the worshipped Lord. In Shaiva Siddhanta practice this is commonly embodied through Saguna worship such as Linga-puja, sustaining remembrance and surrender to Shiva’s grace.
Maintain daily Shiva-bhajana in the household—Linga abhisheka when possible, japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and observances like Mahāśivarātri vrata to keep devotion established in the family line.
