उपदेशः / Sampati Instructed and the Search Mission Foretold
एवमुक्ता मुनिश्रेष्ठ मरुदं दुःखितो भृशं। अथ ध्यात्वा मुहूर्तं तु भगवानिदमब्रवीत्।।4.62.1।।
evam uktā muniśreṣṭha marudaṃ duḥkhito bhṛśam |
atha dhyātvā muhūrtaṃ tu bhagavān idam abravīt ||
Khi ta nói như vậy với bậc thánh hiền tối thượng, lòng đau khổ khôn cùng mà kêu than, thì đấng tôn quý trầm tư giây lát rồi cất lời như sau.
'When thus I spoke to the venerable sage in that manner roaring very painfully the divine sage replied after reflecting silently for a moment:
Dharma appears as compassionate guidance: the wise do not respond impulsively, but reflect and then speak words meant to heal and direct.
In Sampāti’s backstory, after he laments before a great sage, the sage pauses in contemplation and prepares to answer.
The sage’s discernment (viveka): thoughtful silence before speech, ensuring counsel aligns with truth and welfare.
