Sugriva’s Remorse and Tara’s Lament after Vali’s Death
tasmin kṣaṇe ’bhīkṣṇam avekṣyamāṇaḥ kṣitikṣamāvān bhuvanasya goptā |
rāmo rudantīṁ vyasane nimagnāṁ samutsukaḥ so ’tha dadarśa tārām ||
In that moment, Rama, the protector of the world, tolerant like the earth, beheld Tara plunged in grief, looking at him again and again and weeping.
Dharma of leadership: the protector notices the suffering of others and becomes ready to respond; rulership is linked with patience and attentive care.
After the turmoil following Vāli’s death, Rāma sees Tārā in intense grief, repeatedly looking toward him.
Kṣamā and karuṇā—Rāma’s forbearance and compassionate attentiveness.
