With his sons for whose sake cows have been given away the cheerful king looked like shining Prajapati surrrounded by the guardians of the world. Thus ends the seventhsecond sarga of Balakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
Righteous kingship is luminous: the verse links a king’s splendor to dharmic acts (charity and ritual duty), implying moral authority as the source of true radiance.
After completing śrāddha and go-dāna, Daśaratha is depicted in a celebratory, idealized image with his sons.
Serenity born of duty fulfilled: Daśaratha appears ‘saumya’ (gentle/peaceful) because his obligations have been completed in a dharmic manner.
