The Greatness of Kārtika
Sage Nārada (in dialogue instruction, traditionally to a listener addressed as 'subhru')
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It teaches that a vrata becomes spiritually fruitful when paired with dāna: during the Dhātrī-related bath/observance, offering sattvic foods (payasa, curd, fruits) as charity supports purification and merit (puṇya).
By emphasizing disciplined observance (niyama) and selfless giving, it cultivates humility and service—core dispositions that support Vishnu-bhakti in the Narada Purana’s ritual framework.
It reflects Kalpa-style ritual discipline: timing a snāna with a specific observance and prescribing appropriate dāna items (payasa/curd/fruits) as part of vrata-niyama.
