The Greatness of Kārtika
दृश्यन्ते यत्र सम्बन्धाः पुत्रपौत्रविवर्द्धनाः । तस्मान्मोहिनि कर्तास्मि कार्तिके व्रतसेवनम् ॥ ६५ ॥
dṛśyante yatra sambandhāḥ putrapautravivarddhanāḥ | tasmānmohini kartāsmi kārtike vratasevanam || 65 ||
Nơi nào thấy các mối dây gia tộc hưng thịnh, làm tăng con cháu—vì thế, hỡi Mohinī, đấng mê hoặc, ta sẽ thực hành nghi trì giới nguyện tháng Kārtika (Kārtika-vrata) với lòng thành kính.
Narada (in dialogue tradition with the Sanatkumara brothers; Kārtika-vrata praise context)
Vrata: Kārtika-vrata
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It presents Kārtika-vrata as a dharmic observance whose visible fruit includes strengthening and continuity of family life, while implying the deeper merit gained through disciplined religious practice.
By choosing to 'serve' (sevanam) a vrata in Kārtika, the verse frames devotion as sustained practice—bhakti expressed through time-bound vows, restraint, and worship-associated discipline.
Kalpa (ritual procedure) is implied: the verse points to vrata-sevana—structured observance in a specific lunar month (Kārtika), emphasizing correct timing and method in ritual life.
