Mārkaṇḍeya-varṇanam
The Description of Mārkaṇḍeya
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada on the marks of a supreme Bhagavata)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It defines the hallmark of the highest Bhagavata: non-dual empathy—seeing every being as oneself—and steady impartiality, which indicates devotion has matured into inner freedom and compassion.
Bhakti is shown not merely as worship, but as transformation of vision: the devotee’s love for Bhagavān expresses as equal regard for all beings, dissolving hostility and favoritism.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyakarana, Jyotisha, or Kalpa) is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is ethical sadhana—cultivating samatva and non-harm as daily disciplines supporting bhakti.
