Bhakti-Śraddhā-Ācāra-Māhātmya and the Commencement of the Mārkaṇḍeya Narrative
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada in dialogue)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It declares bhakti as the primary means to worship Vishnu and portrays devotion as “motherly,” meaning it nurtures and sustains all spiritual attainments and worldly aims by leading the devotee to divine grace.
The verse states that Vishnu is pleased and approached “by devotion alone,” emphasizing heartfelt surrender and loving worship over mere external performance, because the Lord who grants desired fruits responds directly to bhakti.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyakarana, Jyotisha, or Kalpa) is taught here; the practical takeaway is upasana-priority: whatever one’s ritual or study, its efficacy is fulfilled when grounded in sincere bhakti to Vishnu.
