Saṃsāra-duḥkha: Karmic Descent, Garbhavāsa, Life’s Anxieties, Death, and the Call to Jñāna-Bhakti

मनुष्यजन्म नापि च । चर्मकारचंडालव्याधानापितरजककुंभकारलोहकारस्वर्णकारतंतुवाचसौचिकजटिलसिद्धधावकलेखकभृतकशासनहारिनीचभृत्यद्ररिदहीनांगाधिकांगत्वादि दुःखबहुलज्वरतापशीतश्लेष्मगुल्मपादाक्षिशिरोगर्भपार्श्ववेदनादिदुःखमनुभवंति ॥ ८ ॥

manuṣyajanma nāpi ca | carmakāracaṃḍālavyādhānāpitarajakakuṃbhakāralohakārasvarṇakārataṃtuvācasaucikajaṭilasiddhadhāvakalekhakabhṛtakaśāsanahārinīcabhṛtyadraridahīnāṃgādhikāṃgatvādi duḥkhabahulajvaratāpaśītaśleṣmagulmapādākṣiśirogarbhapārśvavedanādiduḥkhamanubhavaṃti || 8 ||

Họ thậm chí không được thân người đúng nghĩa; trái lại, phải sống trong những cảnh khổ đau—như sinh vào các nghề hèn kém hay khắc nghiệt (thợ thuộc da, kẻ bị coi là tiện dân, thợ săn, thợ cạo, người giặt, thợ gốm, thợ rèn, thợ kim hoàn, thợ dệt, thợ may, kẻ tóc bện, kẻ tự xưng “thành tựu”, người giặt, thư lại, phu thuê, người thu thuế, kẻ hầu hạ, v.v.), hoặc sinh làm kẻ nghèo, kẻ thiếu chi, hay thừa chi. Họ chịu vô vàn thống khổ: sốt, nóng rát, lạnh, bệnh đờm, u bướu trong bụng, và các cơn đau ở chân, mắt, đầu, tử cung, hông sườn cùng nhiều chứng khổ khác.
