Bhāgīratha’s Bringing of the Gaṅgā
Narrator (Purāṇic narrator within the dialogue tradition; verse is in third-person narrative)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It shows that sincere stuti (praise) offered by the devas leads to divine revelation: Viṣṇu responds by disclosing sacred history (carita) that conveys dharma and spiritual instruction.
Bhakti is implied through stuti—devotional glorification. The verse depicts a key bhakti dynamic: heartfelt praise invites Viṣṇu’s grace, expressed as teaching and guidance through kathā (holy narrative).
No specific Vedāṅga (śikṣā, vyākaraṇa, chandas, nirukta, jyotiṣa, kalpa) is taught directly; the practical takeaway is the Purāṇic method of instruction—learning dharma through authoritative narrative (carita/kathā) delivered by a divine source.
