vaiśākhe śrāvaṇe pauṣe āṣāḍhe'bhyudito budhaḥ | jagatāṃ pāpaphaladastvitareṣu śubhapradaḥ || 51 ||
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
It frames time (kāla) and planetary conditions (graha-udaya) as factors influencing worldly outcomes (phala), encouraging discernment in choosing auspicious periods for dharmic acts and restraint in adverse times.
While not directly teaching bhakti, it supports devotional discipline by implying that worship, vrata, and sādhana are strengthened when aligned with auspicious timing, and that one should be cautious and rely on steadiness of practice when indications are adverse.
Jyotiṣa (Vedāṅga astrology): the verse gives a rule about Budha’s rise (abhyudaya/udaya) in specific months and the corresponding auspicious or inauspicious results (śubha/pāpa phala).
