Adhyaya 83 — The Slaying of Mahishasura’s Armies and the Final Death of Mahishasura
देव्युवाच गरज गरज क्षणं मूढ मधु यावत्पिबाम्यहम् ।
मया त्वयि हतेऽत्रैव गर्जिष्यन्त्याशु देवताः ॥
devyuvāca garja garja kṣaṇaṃ mūḍha madhu yāvat pibāmy aham / mayā tvayi hate 'traiva garjiṣyanty āśu devatāḥ
Nữ Thần phán: “Hãy gầm, hãy gầm thêm một lát, hỡi kẻ ngu—cho đến khi Ta uống cạn mật này. Khi ngươi bị Ta giết ngay tại đây, chư thiên sẽ sớm gầm vang (mừng chiến thắng).”

The verse dramatizes the impermanence of boastful power: the asura’s roar is momentary, while the devas’ celebration follows the restoration of cosmic order. It teaches that adharma’s confidence is misplaced.
