Adhyaya 37 — Alarka’s Crisis and the Teaching on Non-Attachment (Madālasa’s Instruction Recalled)
अजायन्त सुताश्चास्य महाबलपराक्रमाः ।
धर्मात्मानो महात्मानो विमार्गपरिपन्थिनः ॥
ajāyanta sutāś cāsya mahā-bala-parākramāḥ |
dharmātmāno mahātmāno vimārga-paripanthinaḥ ||

The verse establishes an ideal of royal progeny: strength and valor are praised, but are explicitly subordinated to dharmic disposition and active resistance to adharma (vimārga). Power is validated by moral orientation.
Primarily Vaṃśa/Vaṃśānucarita (genealogy and dynastic narration), since it reports progeny and their qualities within a royal narrative.
The ‘sons’ can be read as the outward fruits of rulership (extensions of the king’s will). Their being ‘dharmātmā’ suggests that legitimate sovereignty reproduces itself only when rooted in dharma; otherwise lineage becomes merely biological, not ethical.
