Adhyaya 37 — Alarka’s Crisis and the Teaching on Non-Attachment (Madālasa’s Instruction Recalled)
सप्तत्रिंशोऽध्यायः
जड उवाच सोऽप्यलर्को यथान्यायं पुत्रवन्मुदिताः प्रजाः ।
पालयामास धर्मात्मा स्वे स्वे कर्मण्यवस्थिताः ॥
saptatriṃśo 'dhyāyaḥ | jaḍa uvāca so 'pyalarko yathānyāyaṃ putravanmuditāḥ prajāḥ | pālayāmāsa dharmātmā sve sve karmaṇyavasthitāḥ
Chương 37. Jaḍa nói: Alarka cũng vậy, theo lẽ công chính, đã bảo hộ dân chúng—những người vui mừng như thể (ngài là) con của họ—khi họ vẫn an trú trong bổn phận riêng của mình.

Good governance is defined as just protection that enables people to remain steady in their rightful duties; the king’s affection is ideally parental—protective rather than exploitative.
