Adhyaya 16 — The Son’s Counsel on Renunciation and the Anasuya–Mandavya Episode: The Suspension of Sunrise and the Power of Pativrata
देवा ऊचुः वरं वृणीष्व कल्याणि देवकार्यं महत् कृतम् ।
त्वया यस्मात् ततो देवा वरदास्ते तपस्विनि ॥
devā ūcuḥ varaṃ vṛṇīṣva kalyāṇi deva-kāryaṃ mahat kṛtam | tvayā yasmāt tato devā varadās te tapasvini ||
Chư thiên nói: “Hỡi bậc cát tường, hãy chọn một ân huệ. Vì nàng đã hoàn thành một công việc lớn cho chư thiên, nên chư thiên sẽ ban ân cho nàng, hỡi nữ tu khổ hạnh.”

Merit culminates in prasāda (grace). The gods’ offer indicates a Purāṇic ethic of reciprocity: selfless dharmic action becomes ‘deva-kārya’ and draws protective, uplifting returns.
