Sūrya-stava: Dhaumya’s Counsel and the Aṣṭaśata-nāma of Sūrya
वैशम्पायन उवाच लब्ध्वा वरं तु कौन्तेयो जलादुत्तीर्य धर्मवित् । जग्राह पादौ धौम्यस्य भ्रातृश्च॒ परिषस्वजे,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! पूर्वोक्त वर पाकर धर्मके ज्ञाता कुन्तीनन्दन युधिष्ठिर गंगाजीके जलसे बाहर निकले। उन्होंने धौम्यजीके दोनों चरण पकड़े और भाइयोंको हृदयसे लगा लिया
vaiśampāyana uvāca | labdhvā varaṃ tu kaunteyo jalād uttīrya dharmavit | jagrāha pādau dhaumyasyā bhrātṝṃś ca pariṣasvaje ||
Vaiśampāyana nói: Nhận được ân huệ, con trai của Kuntī—Yudhiṣṭhira, bậc am tường dharma—đi lên khỏi dòng nước sông. Chàng kính cẩn nắm lấy đôi chân của Dhaumya và ôm chầm lấy các em trai bằng tình thâm thiết.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic conduct after receiving grace: humility before one’s teacher (touching/clasping the feet) and affectionate solidarity with one’s family (embracing the brothers). Gratitude is expressed through respectful action, not merely words.
After obtaining a boon and coming out of the river, Yudhiṣṭhira respectfully takes hold of Dhaumya’s feet and then embraces his brothers, marking a transition from the boon’s reception to reaffirming social and familial duties.
